Buying a campervan furniture kit is one of the biggest decisions in a self-build. Get it right and the rest of the conversion falls into place; get it wrong and you'll be fighting your layout every trip. Here's how to choose the right flat pack kit for your van.
1. Start with your exact van
Furniture kits are designed around the inside of a specific van, so the first step is knowing exactly what you have:
- Make and model – for example VW Transporter T5/T6/T6.1, Ford Transit Custom, Renault Trafic, Vauxhall Vivaro, Mercedes Vito, VW Crafter, Mercedes Sprinter or Fiat Ducato / Peugeot Boxer / Citroën Relay.
- Model years – some vans changed shape between generations. The Ford Transit Custom, for example, has separate kits for vans up to 2023 and from 2023 on.
- Wheelbase – many kits come in short wheelbase (SWB) and long wheelbase (LWB) versions. Larger vans may also be listed by length and roof height, such as L2H2 or L3H2.

2. Decide how you'll use the van
Think about how many people will sleep in the van, whether you'll cook inside, and how much gear you carry. That will point you towards the right type of furniture.
3. Choose your layout
Kitchen units
Campervan kitchen units run along the side of the van with cupboards, drawers and worktop space. They're the backbone of most conversions, and come in several designs – slimline, low-level, curved and versions with space for a fridge.
Kitchen and storage pods
Pods are compact units that give you cooking or storage space without a full-length kitchen. They suit smaller vans, day vans and flexible layouts.
U-shape layouts
U-shape layouts create a sociable lounge and dining area by day and convert into a bed at night – ideal if you'll spend time inside the van in bad weather.
Beds and hybrid bed systems
Bed systems and hybrid bed systems focus on a comfortable sleeping area, with hybrid systems combining seating, storage and a bed in one kit.
Swivel units
Swivel units sit beside a swivelled front seat, adding a low-level unit with a removable pod – a clever way to use the space behind the cab.
Full conversion kits
For larger panel vans, full conversion kits furnish the whole van in one go.
4. Pick your board and finish

5. Flat pack or assembled?
All kits are supplied flat pack with every assembly accessory included – cam fixings, hinges, screws and more – ready for you to build. Panels have raw CNC-cut edges and may need a light sand. If you'd rather not, add our assembly service for £300 per kit (£595 for large-van kits such as Ducato, Crafter and Sprinter) and we'll build the units for you.
6. Plan for delivery and lead time
Kits are made to order, typically in 2–4 weeks. Delivery to mainland England is £195 per kit, or you can collect free of charge from Peterborough. Because every kit is made to order, it's worth double-checking your van details before you buy – if in doubt, contact us first.
